Statement by The Newspaper Society of Hong Kong on irrational and violent acts against journalists
The Newspaper Society of Hong Kong is deeply concerned that many reporters have been victimised while covering mass activities in recent months. From being the subjects of insults and attacks to having their reporting activities disrupted, the situation, as shown by what happened at the airport yesterday, is getting worse day by day.
Newsgathering is the duty of journalists, who seek to provide the public with information and facts to ascertain the truth. No one should mistreat journalists in the course of their work. We strongly condemn all forms of irrational and violent acts against journalists. We hope that the community would allow emotions to calm down and end all forms of violence.
